Are you a literary translator publishing your first full-length book-length translation? The ALTA First Translation Prize acknowledges debut literary translators and their editors with a $3,000 money prize and business recognition.

What You Win
The ALTA First Translation Prize presents:
- $3,000 whole prize
- $2,000 to the translator
- $1,000 to the editor
- Recognition on the ALTA48 Convention Awards Ceremony (November 2025)
Eligibility For The ALTA First Translation Prize
- Translators & Publishers can submit
All literary genres are accepted
Books have to be the translator’s first full-length literary translation
They will need to have been revealed in English in 2024
Translations from any language & translators from anyplace on the planet
Submission Particulars
- No entry charge
- Books have to be professionally revealed (no self-published works)
- Co-translations usually are not eligible
- Chapbooks don’t depend as full-length publications
- Translators who’ve revealed shorter works (in journals, anthologies, and so on.) are eligible
Upon submission, publishers will obtain directions to mail print copies to judges (if requested). Postmark deadline: March 18, 2025.
